Marine Aquarium

The SWIMS aquarium is supplied with natural inshore seawater pumped from the Hok Tsui bay, which is passed through a cyclone separator and three sets of sand filters to remove detritus and the majority of suspended sediments, thus ensuring high quality seawater available for the rearing of marine organisms for scientific studies. The indoor aquarium is equipped with a series of wooden racks and water tables in a versatile modular design, which allows for the reconfiguration of tank space to suit the experimental procedure or the organisms being maintained. Three isolated rooms are also available where access and light cycles can be controlled for conducting behavioral experiments. Additional, larger capacity, seawater tanks are maintained outdoors, which are then subject to ambient environmental conditions.
